First impressions of Spain
Audio 1
First listen: choose the best answer. Do not open the transcript yet.
I have been to Spain, and what stood out to me was not only the architecture, but also the way people treated us. I went there two years ago with my friend Vanessa. We visited Madrid, Barcelona, Toledo, Segovia, and Ávila. I was especially excited to see Gaudí’s architecture in Barcelona, because I’m really into art and design. To be honest, Barcelona felt intense and a little confusing at times, while Madrid felt more organized and comfortable. Still, Spain surprised me in a good way. The people were very welcoming, and some expressions, like “cariño,” made the culture feel warm. The food was not my favorite, but the trip was special because of the art, the cities, and the people.

Madrid or Barcelona?
Audio 2
This audio is more detailed. Listen for city differences and opinion language.
When I think about Spain, I remember two very different feelings. Barcelona was beautiful because of Gaudí’s architecture, the colors, and the artistic atmosphere. However, it also felt crowded and a little chaotic. Madrid, on the other hand, felt more comfortable for me. It was busy, but in a more organized way. I also felt safer there. What surprised me most was how warm people were. They used friendly words, they talked to us kindly, and the culture felt familiar and different at the same time. I didn’t try paella because seafood usually makes me feel sick, but I ate jamón almost every day. So, the food was not the highlight of the trip. The highlight was the feeling that Spain could be a place where I would like to live someday.
